CEPESE CEPESE | CENTRO DE ESTUDOS DA POPULAÇÃO, ECONOMIA E SOCIEDADE

About CEPESE

CEPESE – Research Centre for the study of Population, Economy and Society is a Public Utility Institution dedicated to scientific research, with an interuniversity vocation, founded by the University of Porto and the António de Almeida Foundation in 1990.

We develop research activities in the field of History and other areas of Social and Human Sciences that contribute to the study, analysis and understanding of society, understood in a broad sense, including its historical evolution, characterization at the present and future challenges.

To this end, we support studies and research projects, some in collaboration with other institutions, discussing results in seminars and other regular and multidisciplinary scientific meetings, and promote the dissemination of results in books, in our own journal, População e Sociedade, published every six months, in thematic collections and in national and foreign scientific journals, as well as through digital platforms.

At present, CEPESE has over 300 individual members, as well as fifteen collective partners and honorary patrons, including higher education institutions, municipal governments, foundations and private companies that value our scientific research and activities.

Our facilities, located in an independent building at the campus of the University Fernando Pessoa, include several offices, meeting rooms and specialized library, equipped with modern technological equipment, including our own servers. We have a specialized full-time staff, to support all our members and research activities.
