CEPESE - Centre for the Study of Population, Economy and Society, founded by the University of Porto and the Eng. António de Almeida Foundation in 1990, is a public utility institution dedicated to scientific research, of interuniversity vocation, with its own bylaws published in the Diário da República (Portuguese Official Journal), with the following mission:
- To develop research in Political Science, International Relations, and Social and Human Sciences in general, through the publication and diffusion of results in books, accredited national and foreign journal, and on CEPESE's digital platforms;
- To promote and spread scientific culture in Portuguese society, thus contributing to the development of the Information and Communication Society;
- To strengthen the Portuguese presence in the world, through the establishment of relations with the international scientific community, particularly southern European and Portuguese speaking countries;
- To support, scientifically and materially, young researchers, namely those committed in PhD projects.
