The Transnationalization of Political Parties: Portuguese Integration into Political Families and "European Political Parties"

This research project aimed to analyze the process of the transnationalization of European party politics, focusing on the integration of the main national political forces into this movement.

To meet the project's objectives, a diachronic analysis was conducted, culminating in the transnationalization of political parties up to the present. This analysis focused particularly on the European Parliament and the potential extension of influence in decision-making within the European Council and the Council of Ministers of the European Union. In 2019, a seminar on the European Parliament elections was held. The following year, the book "The European Parliament and European Elections: Essays on Democratic Legitimacy" was prepared, organized by three CEPESE researchers, Cláudia Toriz Ramos, Paulo Vila Maior, and Isabel Costa Leite, published in 2021.
