Porto Metropolitan Area (1992-2022)

This project, initiated in 2021, was concluded in time for the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Porto Metropolitan Area.

The Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP), as a political institution based on inter-municipal cooperation with competences affecting the territorial space of the same name, was created in 1991 and established the following year, thus reaching three decades of existence in 2022. To commemorate this milestone, and given the profound changes in its structure and responsibilities over this period—with successive legal reforms significantly expanding its scope—the AMP tasked CEPESE with studying its history, which, in terms of municipal cooperation in the "Greater Porto" area, has roots dating back to the Middle Ages. The final results of the project were presented to the institution in 2022. The following year, the work was published in two volumes.
