Guarda: From its Origins to the Present

This research project, initiated in 2019, aimed to explore the history of the city of Guarda from the earliest evidence of human occupation in its territory to the present day.

With a broad research team, it was possible to analyse the history of the city of Guarda through an original and authentic interpretation of its political history, administrative institutions, demographic, social, and economic structures, its elites, the multiple functions performed by the city, the city/countryside relationship, and the evolution, renewal, and construction of the urban space of the city. The study highlights and contrasts the timeless aspects with the changes and disruptions that have occurred over the centuries. The Municipal Council of Guarda published the project’s results in April 2024, in a four-volume set.
