Archival Treatment of the Document Collection of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto
Recognizing the importance of the document collection of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto (SCMP), CEPESE undertook the treatment and inventorying of the archival fonds accumulated over many decades in institutions under the administration of the SCMP.
This project, aimed at the archival treatment of the SCMP document fonds, which included:
- Reconditioning and Cleaning: Ensuring the preservation and proper storage of the documents.
- Assessment and Inventorying: Evaluating the accumulated document masses through the inventory of installation units, including the creation of a database due to the lack of a previous descriptive tool.
- Organic-Functional Study: Developing a comprehensive study reflecting the entire organizational history of the involved institutions to identify their objectives and functions over time.
- Creation of Guiding Documents: Establishing a classification framework applicable to all institutions and a retention schedule determining the preservation periods for the documents.
The project was completed in December 2020, with the final reports delivered and approved by the Misericórdia.
