In its first biannual issue of 2018, População e Sociedade presents a thematic dossier under the title “Political and Economic Elites in the Contemporary Age”. The dossier includes four studies around this issue: “Simão da Silva Ferraz de Lima e Castro (baron of Rendufe). Political and diplomatic activity, 1821-1848”, by Carlos Alberto Damas; “E/immigrants from the North of Portugal in Brazil in the first half of the 19th century. From clerks to commanders”, by Paulo Amorim; “Elites and local power in Contemporary Portugal the case of the Mayors of Vila Nova de Gaia in the First Republic (1910-1926)”, by Ricardo Rocha; and “Who are they? The Parliamentary deputies in Portugal, 11th-13th legislatures. Social and political outline”, by Judite Gonçalves de Freitas and Aristotelis Pittaris.
The Varia section presents an article on “Economic-social history of Angola: from the pre-colonial period to independence”, by Luís Pacheco, Paulo Costa and Fernando Oliveira Tavares.
