Official Press in Portugal and the World. History and Historical Sources
Coordination: Fernando de Sousa
This thematic dossier derives from the research project DIGIGOV – Digital Government Gazette (1820-1910), developed by CEPESE, under the coordination of Fernando de Sousa, and funded by the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology [PTDC/EPH-HIS/ 0777/2014]. Among other goals, this project aimed at analyzing the history of the official newspaper of the Portuguese State since its origins – dating back to 1715, with the creation of the Gazeta de Lisboa –, its evolution over time and its potential as a source for other research works, from a national and international perspective, compared to other journals with a similar nature. To this end, several national and foreign specialists (from Spain, France, Italy, United Kingdom, USA and Brazil) were invited and carried out the following articles, which make the relevance of official newspapers very clear, both as an object of historiographical study and as a documentary source.
