Introduction
Within the scope of its aims and purposes, CEPESE also functions, since 1996, as a Research Unit in the field of History, under the same name, currently coordinated by Fernando de Sousa. As a R&D Unit, CEPESE is dependent on the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, whose main activity is regulated by the rules established by the Ministry of Education and Science, with over one hundred PhD researchers belonging to about twenty Portuguese Higher Education Institutions, besides several dozens of non-PhD researchers. The R&D Unit is periodically evaluated by the FCT, through a panel of international experts, and in the last evaluation process (2007/2008) was rated Very Good, the highest rating granted to a research unit in the field of History. Given its exceptional conditions, the CEPESE not only meets the legal requirements to work as the host institution duly accredited by the Ministry of Education and Science, but also all material conditions and scientific research support from the bibliographic support available from your library the orientation of the work by senior researchers with extensive experience in that respect.
