Archive of the Legation of Portugal in St. Petersburg and in the Baltic States
Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Russia and the presentation of the first ambassador of Portugal in St. Petersburg, Francisco José da Horta Osório Machado, in 1779, the Legation of Portugal in St. Petersburg was finally set up. Its Archive is installed in the documentary fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the National Archives of Torre do Tombo, and contains original documents and records relating to the regular correspondence of the legation with the Central Services, from 1779 to 1832 (18 boxes - quotas EN-TT-MNE-ASC-C-8-14-C839 to C856). The same fund also includes the archive concerning the Legation of Portugal in Denmark (5 boxes - quotas EN-TT-MNE-ASC-C-8-14-C545 to C549); and at the consulate records, the one regarding the consulate in Riga (1 box - share ca-EN-TT-MNE-C194; 6 books - quotas ca-EN-TT-MNE-L240 to L245).
This database presents a significant part of these funds, scanned in high resolution, thus providing an important primary documentary source for those concerned with the study of the relations between Portugal and these States.
