Emigration from Portugal to Brazil. Demographic Dynamics and Political Speech

This Research Project, funded by the FCT, follows the Project “Emigration from Northern Portugal to Brazil”, and its aims are the construction of a database that will include the individual records of Portuguese who emigrated to Brazil; it already counts with over 400 thousand individual records.

It is a Research Project that will continue the Project Emigration from Northern Portugal to Brazil, that a CEPESE’s team, composed by dozens of Portuguese and Brazilian researchers, has been developing over the past years and whose aims include the construction of a database that will include the individual records of Portuguese who emigrated to Brazil; it counts already with 400 thousand individual records, supplemented with Portuguese and Brazilian legislation on emigration/ immigration between 1835 and 1947, the survey of documentary funds existing both in Portugal and Brazil regarding the Portuguese emigration to Brazil, the studies carried out on this theme in digital format, and a complete inventory of sources and bibliography for the study of emigration.
