The Mayors of Vila Nova de Gaia (1834-2010)
The Mayors of the City Hall of Vila Nova de Gaia (1834-2010), which counted with the support of that Municipality, aims at writing the biographies of the Mayors of the City Hall of Vila Nova de Gaia between 1834 and 2010, to describe their actions while running the Municipality and to present the evolution of the legislative framework regarding the local power in Contemporary Portugal, under which the different Mayors of the City Hall of Vila Nova de Gaia performed their duties.
It is a three-year Research Project, aiming at presenting the biography of the Mayors of the City Hall of Gaia since the Municipality became autonomous and began electing its Presidents, i.e. from 1834 up to present time. It is our aim to describe their political actions while ruling the Municipality.
