SIHER - Processes of Sedimentary Infilling and Holocene Evolution of the Ria Formosa Lagoon System
This Project, developed by the University of Algarve with the participation of CEPESE, aims at analysing the physical and geological processes in the Ria Formosa lagoon system resulting from natural climate changes during the transition of the last glacier to interglacial, to which are added effects of anthropic activity.
SIHER – Processes of Sedimentary Infilling and Holocene Evolution of the Ria Formosa Lagoon System aims at deepening the knowledge on the magnitude and frequency of climate change and mean sea level, as well as its capacity to shape the coastline, also taking into consideration the consequences of human action carried out in those areas, thus contributing to the production of more realistic forecasts on coastline evolution. It is a project with a deeply interdisciplinary scope resorting to joint analysis of data resulting from History, Geology, Geomorphology, Micro-Palaeontology, Sedimentology and Geochemistry.
