Publication of the collective work "Iberian E(I)migration to the Americas. Associative Practices and Roots Tourism"

The importance of the diaspora in the History and Culture of Iberian countries is evident in contemporary societies, just as immigration to the Americas is an unavoidable and essential reality in the historical path of the respective countries. Among emigrant communities, it is common to implement, in the host territories, practices of solidarity and associations — of assistance, cultural or recreational nature — as forms of support, identity preservation or social and economic affirmation. On the other hand, resulting from e(im)migration, roots tourism, that is, visits by descendants to their family's countries of origin, in search of references, memories and experiences, assume an increasingly greater relevance, providing networks of circulation and new tourist products. These are the major themes covered in this publication in digital format, coordinated by Susana Serpa Silva, Fernando de Sousa and Diogo Ferreira, supported by the Regional Government of the Azores, FCT, CHAM-Açores and CEPESE, which resulted from the Seminar with the same name held in 2019 at the Ponta Delgada campus of the University of the Azores, organized by CHAM Açores, CEPESE and LABIMI (UERJ).
