Presentation of the book “Portuguese emigration to Brazil in the context of the great European migrations. The case of the Bragança district (1850-1911)”
As part of our “Portuguese in the World” Collection, the aim of this work is to analyze the importance and characteristics of Portuguese emigration in the context of the great European migrations, namely the economic, political and social conditioning factors of the migratory phenomenon in the north-east of Portugal, in a time frame between the beginning of the Regeneration (1850) and the dawn of the First Portuguese Republic (1911). It is structured in three parts. A first part of a theoretical nature, a second part of historical contextualization and a third part of a more specific and intensive analysis of our case study: the emigration from the district of Bragança to Brazil, including an approach to some individual cases of emigrants who were particularly successful.
