2nd International Congress of Political Science and International Relations

In a joint initiative between the Fernando Pessoa University, the Institute for Research, Innovation and Development, and CEPESE, this second edition of the Congress will focus on the Economic Diplomacy arising from the current national and international context that presents us with both potential and weaknesses, involving international trade in products and services, the attraction of Foreign Direct Investment and access to international financing models.

Aware of the importance of Economic Diplomacy, analysed from the perspective of the evolution of foreign direct investment in Portugal, which in 2023 amounted to 180,411.22 M€, or the fact that in 2023 the Portuguese balance of trade had a positive amount of 3,275.9 M€, and also considering the international environment, characterised by the interdependence of economies, the globalisation of the market and consequently of competition, if internationalisation is inevitable, there is an unequivocal need to debate the fundamental role of Economic Diplomacy in its interstate action, with particular relevance to the repercussions for companies and their competitiveness in a wider market, promoting profits in the value chain of products and services.
