This work is based on the premise that e/immigration is a complex process that goes beyond the displacement, deeply affecting the lives of its protagonists. From the decision to emigrate to the arrival, the adaptation in the hosting society and the reconstruction of identity, economic, social, cultural, affective and mental aspects, playing a permanent dialectic in a process of encounters and disagreements that affect those who have become foreign. This book focuses on the immigrant, mainly the Portuguese immigrant, bringing together works associated with the project "Portuguese Emigration to Brazil" and REMESSAS – Research Network on Emigration from Southern Europe to South America", coordinated by CEPESE, which aggregates researchers, mostly Portuguese and Brazilian, linked to different teaching and research institutions..
